Moda Center opened in 1995 as the Rose Garden — the name Portland still uses for the whole district — and took its current name in 2013. It was built with an acoustic ceiling designed to hold noise in, which is part of why a full house here is one of the loudest environments in the league, and it anchors the Rose Quarter across the Willamette from downtown.
