American Airlines Center opened in 2001 in Victory Park, just north of downtown Dallas, in red brick and limestone with four arched entrances — a deliberately traditional exterior over a thoroughly modern bowl. Mavericks and Stars share it, and it is one of the larger NBA arenas at around 19,200 for basketball.

A big, symmetrical, three-tier bowl, which makes the choice mostly about level. The lower level sidelines are the reference view and stay close to the floor; the platinum and club rings between the tiers give the flattest and most comfortable angle; the upper level is high but steep enough to read the game, and its corners are the value pick. Behind the baskets the lowest rows are close to the rim at the cost of the far half of the court.
