Climate Pledge Arena opened in 2021 inside the shell of the 1962 World's Fair building — the Seattle Center Coliseum, later KeyArena — whose landmarked roof was held in the air on temporary supports while the entire bowl beneath it was excavated and rebuilt. The result is the newest interior in the league under the oldest roof, and one of the few arenas in the world with a legal obligation not to demolish its own ceiling.

The bowl was dug down rather than built up, so the concourse you enter on is roughly level with the top of the lower bowl and the 100 level sits below street level. That geometry keeps the upper deck low: the 200 level here is closer to the ice than the upper level of most arenas its size, and its centre-ice rows are one of the better cheap hockey views in the league. The 100 level along the boards is the reference view and the 100 corners see both goals for less. The roof means the building is wider at the top than the bowl needs, which is why the concourses feel generous and the seating does not.
