The United Center opened in 1994 to replace Chicago Stadium and is the largest arena in the NHL by hockey capacity after the Bell Centre: close to 19,700 under a barrel-vaulted roof, with the Michael Jordan statue at the east entrance and the Blackhawks' banners overhead. This is the room where the crowd sings over the anthem, a habit inherited from the old stadium next door, and it is worth arriving early for.

Its size is the thing to plan around. The 100 level is a wide, generous lower bowl and its rows along the boards are the reference view; the 100 corners are the value seat and still see both goals. The 200 club level is the flattest, most comfortable angle. The 300 level is genuinely high — this is a big room — but for hockey that height works for you rather than against you: from centre ice up there, the whole sheet, both blue lines and every line change are in front of you. The last rows of the 300s are as far from the ice as the NHL gets.
