The Bell Centre opened in 1996 as the Molson Centre, replacing the Montreal Forum a few streets west, and it is the largest arena in the NHL: just under 21,000 for hockey, more than any other building in the league. Twenty-four Stanley Cup banners hang from its roof and the room has a reputation that survives translation — the anthem, the standing ovations, the noise a full house makes on a Saturday night.
Size is the thing to plan around, because the top of this building is genuinely far from the ice. The 100 level (rouges) along the boards is the closest full view of the sheet; the 100 corners see both goals and cost less. The 200 club and loge rings flatten the angle and are the most comfortable seats in the arena. The 300 level (blancs and gris) is the highest in the league — and for hockey that is not the insult it would be in basketball: from centre ice up there, the whole rink, both blue lines and the line changes are in front of you. The rows behind the goals are for atmosphere.
