Rogers Place opened in 2016 as the anchor of the Ice District, replacing Rexall Place after four decades, and it is one of the best new buildings in the league: a bowl designed so that the upper deck is pulled in over the ice rather than pushed back, a 1,600 m² scoreboard, and a glass “Winter Garden” bridge over 104 Avenue that lets you get to your seat from the LRT without going outside in January.

Modern rink-first geometry, and the payoff is in the upper bowl. The 100 level along the boards is the closest complete view of the sheet and the 100 corners see both goals for less. The loge and club rings are flat and comfortable. The 200 upper level is unusually close for a building of this capacity, because it is cantilevered forward over the lower bowl — from centre ice up there you get the height a long sheet needs and you are still near enough to read faces on the bench. The ends are steep and loud, and the rows above the glass see far more of the play than the glass rows.
