The Saddledome opened in 1983 for the 1988 Winter Olympics as the Olympic Saddledome, was the Canadian Airlines Saddledome and then the Pengrowth Saddledome, and has been Scotiabank Saddledome since 2010. Its hyperbolic paraboloid roof — the saddle that gives it its name — is a piece of engineering that has aged into a Calgary landmark, and it is the second-oldest building in the NHL. A replacement arena is under construction next door in Stampede Park.

The saddle roof is not just an exterior feature: it is why the upper bowl at the ENDS is lower and tighter than the upper bowl at the sides, and why this building's seating map does not behave like a standard arena's. The 100 level along the boards is the reference view; the 100 corners see both goals and are the value buy. The press level and clubs sit between the tiers. In the 200s, the end sections sit under the low part of the roof and feel closer than their number suggests, while the side sections at centre ice give the classic full-sheet view. It is the one building in the league where “upper level” genuinely means two different products, and the 3D view is the quickest way to tell them apart.
