Husky Stadium sits on the edge of Lake Washington with Mount Rainier behind one end, which makes it the most photographed setting in the sport, and its two enormous cantilevered roofs over the sidelines make it one of the loudest. A rebuild finished in 2013 replaced the lower bowl and the east end while keeping the roofs, which are the reason the building sounds the way it does.

People arrive by boat. The moorings behind the east end fill on a home Saturday and the walk from the dock to the gate is part of the day here in a way it is nowhere else in the sport. The roofs trap crowd noise and throw it back down at the field, so the covered sideline seats are both the driest and the loudest in a city where rain is a reasonable expectation from October.

The two sideline stands are covered and steep; the roof means the back rows are protected but also that the sky is cut off, so the view frames the field tightly. The lower rows on the sidelines are close and flat. The east end is open and low and looks straight down the field towards the water. The upper sideline rows under the roof are the best combination of view, sound and shelter in the building — and the difference between a covered and an uncovered seat in the same price band is the single most useful thing the 3D view shows here.
