The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum opened in 1923, has hosted two Olympic Games and will host a third in 2028, and is the only stadium to have staged two Super Bowls and a World Series. The peristyle arch and the torch at the east end are the signature and are protected; a renovation completed in 2019 replaced every seat, added the tower on the south side and cut the capacity to its present figure.

The walk in goes past Exposition Park and the museums, and the peristyle end is where the torch is lit. Southern California means the weather is a non-issue and the light in an afternoon kick-off is the best of any stadium here. The band is the loudest single element in the building.

A very wide, shallow bowl — the geometry of a stadium designed for athletics as much as for football, which means the lower rows sit further from the touchline than in a purpose-built football stadium and the slope is gentler than modern bowls. That makes height genuinely valuable here: the middle and upper rows on the sidelines read the field far better than the front rows do. The south side carries the new premium structure. The peristyle end is the view everybody photographs and a mediocre angle for watching football.
