Snapdragon Stadium opened on 19 August 2022 and staged its first football game on 3 September, having cost three hundred and ten million dollars against an original budget of a hundred and fifty. It stands on the Mission Valley site of the old San Diego Stadium — Jack Murphy, then Qualcomm, then SDCCU — which San Diego State bought from the city with a hundred and thirty-five acres around it for eighty-eight million dollars in 2020 and then demolished. Same ground, entirely different building, and the confusion between the two is worth clearing up before you look at a seating plan.

The students are The Show, a section that started in the basketball arena and moved across. The trolley stops at the gate, which makes it one of the few grounds in the sport where most people arrive by public transport. San Diego from September to November is the mildest weather in this hub, and the only genuinely difficult condition is a midday kick-off in September.

Deliberately asymmetric: three levels on the west, two on the east, with the home side and the hospitality pavilion on the west. The north end has railed rows built as a safe-standing supporter section, which is where The Show and the general-admission supporters sit. The big screens are in the corners rather than the ends. The single most important thing to know before buying is that there is almost no shade anywhere — twelve light masts and not one canopy, and the venue itself tells you to bring a hat and sunscreen. The loge boxes in the south-west corner are sold on their view of the sunset, which tells you where the sun ends up. The pitch is natural bermuda, the only real grass in this group.
