Sun Devil Stadium from 1958 until 2023, when a fifteen-year naming agreement changed the sign, with the pitch still Frank Kush Field. It is wedged between two desert buttes just south of the Salt River, which is the most distinctive setting of any ground in the conference. Its other distinction is a design mistake: it was built without waterproofing on the theory that a stadium in the desert would not need any, the post-match pressure washing corroded the steel until the concrete began to buckle, and the resulting five-phase rebuild between 2015 and 2019 cost around three hundred million dollars.
Almost everything here kicks off in the evening, because September in Tempe is brutal and there is no roof anywhere in the building. The team arrives on the Devil Walk beforehand; Sparky does one press-up for every point after a touchdown. That rebuild deliberately took seats out of the upper deck and broke the old closed ring to open views of the river, so the ground is smaller and better than it was. In 2026 an indoor practice facility goes up next door and takes about eight hundred parking spaces out of the immediate area.
The west side is the deep one — lower bowl, a club and premium level, and an upper deck. The east was rebuilt in two levels with more premium than it used to have. The north end is a single tier under the big video board with the athletics building behind it, and the south end is one large stand that holds the student section, moved there in 2018 at the students' own request. For the usual evening kick-offs the west side is in shade and the east stays in the sun until close to sunset; for a rare afternoon game there is essentially nowhere to hide.
