Opened in August 2014 on the site of Robertson Stadium, which had been Houston's ground since 1946, at a cost of a hundred and twenty-five million dollars; the formal name puts John O'Quinn Field in front of the sponsor. The bowl is dug twenty-five feet below the main concourse, so the building reads as low and unimposing from the street, and the corrugated metal skin is perforated to let light and air through — a deliberate answer to the Houston climate rather than a styling choice. It was designed from the start so that it can be taken to sixty thousand.

Fireworks go off after every Houston score and the team runs out through pyrotechnics. The eleven-yard line is marked in tribute to a former quarterback's retired number. September here is the most humid month of the year — around thirty-two degrees, ninety per cent humidity in the morning, thunderstorms on roughly eight days of the month — and the 2026 opener kicks off at eleven in the morning, which is the hottest ticket in the sport in the least welcome sense. A rail stop sits a hundred yards from the gates, which is unusual for this sport.

A complete lower bowl on all four sides with a partial upper deck above it, left partial on purpose so the ground can grow. The premium is the unusual part: instead of being stacked above a stand it sits at ground level on the south side — a large club inside the lower bowl, suites above it, loge boxes, open-air party decks within the bowl itself and two open-air suites in the ends. Students hold more than five thousand seats. Because the pitch runs east to west rather than north to south, following a solar study done at the design stage, the shade falls across the ends as the day goes on rather than parking on one sideline, so no single side is the obvious shady one.
