University Stadium is built into an arroyo, with the field below the level of the surrounding ground — a berm building that sits in the desert rather than on it. It opened on 17 September 1960 with a 77-6 win over the Pumas of the UNAM and has carried a commercial name only once, as Dreamstyle Stadium between 2017 and 2020, before reverting. The pitch has been Turner and Margaret Branch Field since 2012.

Since 2025 the team comes out of genuine hot-air balloon baskets in red smoke, which is a better idea than it has any right to be in the city that holds the balloon fiesta, and there is a hundred-yard children's dash before the game. At five thousand one hundred feet the high-desert sun is strong enough that the university installed shaded cooling stations with misting fans and free water; the Albuquerque wind is part of the local reputation and the November nights are cold.

The east and west stands are the original 1960 concrete; the west took the press box and the suites in a job in 1976. The north end was closed in 2001 with five thousand seven hundred seats and the LoboVision board, and now holds the beer garden and patio as well; a new Daktronics board over thirty-one feet tall went in there with an eleven-million-dollar state appropriation. The SOUTH END IS STILL OPEN and still the original 1960 structure. The student section, the Howl Raisers, moved in 2025 to the lower south-eastern sections behind the visiting bench; the older Red Menace block sat in the north end. Nothing in the ground is covered.
