Chris Ault Field at Mackay Stadium opened on 1 October 1966 with seven and a half thousand seats, replacing an earlier Mackay Field of 1909 that stood elsewhere on the campus and whose site is now a plaza. It peaked at 31,545 after the 1990-92 expansion and has come down since, because the 2016 rebuild of the west side traded seats for suites, a club and better sight lines. The pitch was dedicated to Chris Ault in September 2013.
Before every home game somebody reads Kipling's Law of the Jungle over the public address and the whole ground finishes it with a wolf howl. The Fremont Cannon, the heaviest trophy in the sport, is played for against UNLV, and the big N on Peavine Peak is repainted every autumn. Alcohol goes on sale ninety minutes before kick-off and stops at the end of the third quarter.
Nevada's own facilities page still shows 30,000, wording that predates the 2016 rebuild of the west side; the Mountain West lists 27,000.
Four blocks of stand that are not symmetrical, arranged round a running track, so the front rows sit further back from the touchline than they would in a football-only ground, and the bowl is open. The west is the premium side — forty-eight suites, a stadium club with closed-circuit screens and outdoor heaters, loge boxes and backed seats in seven sections from 2016. The east has twelve suites and an upper deck. The students and the band moved to the south end in 2021 to concentrate the noise, and the north end has been quiet since. The sun here is documented rather than guessed at: the west side is in shade and colder for most games while everything else, and the east side in particular, sits in the sun. That is why the west club has outdoor heaters.
