Both slashes are correct. The stadium honours two men — the coach Kenneth Bill Kelly and the Saginaw banker R. Perry Shorts — and the pitch, named in September 2022, honours two more in Roy Kramer and Herb Deromedi. It opened mid-season, on 4 November 1972, as Perry Shorts Stadium, and took the second half of its name in June 1983. The twenty-eight-million-dollar expansion after the 1997 season added ten thousand seats and made it the largest on-campus stadium in the conference.

Fire Up Chips, coined in 1967 by the residents of Calkins Hall, is the thing the whole ground shouts; The Fighting Chippewa, the fight song, dates from 1935. Tradition Days bring tribal drum ceremonies to selected home games as part of the formal arrangement under which Central Michigan uses the Chippewas name with the permission of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. The student section has been the Snake Pit since the eighties, and after a win the players join the band to lead the fight song. At forty-three and a half degrees north on flat open ground, a Wednesday night in November here is as cold as this conference gets.

The pitch runs north to south. The WEST is the premium side: a two-level press box with nine guest suites and club-level seating below and the media, coaching booths and match operations above, with the club chairs immediately in front of the suites. The NORTH end holds the Champions Club with loge boxes, a field-level club and a patio club. The SOUTH end has the main video board and is where the students gather beneath it. The EAST is general seating with the student block and the Chippewa Marching Band next to each other, which makes that the loud side. The surface is laid in alternating dark and light green stripes, which read very clearly on television and, from the upper rows, on the eye.
