Jordan-Hare Stadium opened in 1939 as Auburn Stadium, became Cliff Hare Stadium in 1949 and took its present name in 1973 — the only stadium in the sport named for a coach while he was still coaching against the man it was also named for. It has been expanded on every side since, ending as a closed, symmetrical bowl with tall upper decks on both touchlines.
An eagle flies a lap of the stadium before kick-off and lands at midfield; the crowd noise that follows it is the first big sound of the day. Auburn is a small town that doubles in size on a home Saturday, and the walk down College Street to the stadium is the whole pre-match. Night games here are the loud ones.
Lower bowl on all four sides, upper decks on the west and east sidelines, and closed corners. The lower sidelines are close and the rows are long. The upper decks are tall and steep; the front rows are the best seats in the building for reading the game and the back rows are a long climb. The end zones are lower and cheaper with a clean straight view. Corners are the underpriced seats, as usual.
