Neyland Stadium sits on the bank of the Tennessee River and has been extended sixteen times since 1921, which is why its levels do not line up the way a purpose-built bowl's would. The checkerboard end zones are the visual signature and a renovation programme through the 2020s rebuilt the south concourse and reopened sightlines to the water.
Boats moor on the river behind the stadium and the crowd walks up from them; the Vol Navy is the only pre-match ritual in the sport that requires a hull. The band plays the same song enough times that visiting fans learn it. Late-season games are cool and the river fog sits under the lights.
The lower bowl is the closest and oldest part and its sideline rows are the reference view. The upper decks were added in stages and are tall and steep, particularly on the west; their front rows are the best value in the building. The end zones stack up higher than they look on a plan. Because the additions came in phases, two seats in the same nominal level can sit at quite different heights and angles, which is exactly what the 3D view is for here.
