Kidd Brewer Stadium — also called The Rock, and no relation to the other one in this conference — opened on 15 September 1962 as Conrad Stadium and was renamed on 3 September 1988. At 3,333 feet it is the highest college football stadium east of the Mississippi, and the number is part of the identity. In 1970 it became the first ground in either Carolina to lay artificial turf. It has grown in small steps almost continuously since 2008, from about sixteen and a half thousand seats to thirty thousand in 2017.
Mountain Music plays before the team comes out, the two sides of the ground trade an App and a State across the pitch, and the Mountaineer Walk has taken a new route since 2025. Yosef is everywhere, including on the name of the donor club and the snack bar. Blue Ridge cloud and fog roll through the ground during games, and it is very much colder here in November than anywhere else in this conference.
The west is the main side with the press box and, unusually, the student block and the Marching Mountaineers as well; the east is the other sideline. The north end was closed in 2021 by a fifty-million-dollar facility carrying a thousand club seats, and a field-level suite went into the south-eastern corner in 2025. The south end is the hill: a grass bank with the green A cut into the hedge behind the scoreboard. It is the cheapest way in and it is also the one place in the ground where the sight line to the main board is compromised, which is worth knowing before you buy it as a bargain. Advanced planning on a new east tower began in late 2025 but nothing is under construction this season.
