Williams-Brice Stadium opened in 1934 as Carolina Stadium and took its current name in 1972. It sits away from the main campus next to the state fairgrounds, which gives it the largest surrounding tailgate footprint of any stadium in the conference, and it grew upwards in stages with upper decks added to both sidelines.
The crowd's entrance song is played before kick-off and the whole stadium jumps to it; it is the moment visiting supporters get warned about. The fairgrounds setting means the day starts early in the car parks and the walk in is short. Night games in early autumn here are humid.
A conventional stacked bowl: lower level all the way round, upper decks on the sidelines, end zones lower and open. The lower sideline is the classic view and its rows sit close to the touchline. The upper decks are steep and tall and their front rows are the best compromise between height and distance. The end zone lower rows put you behind the posts with a clean look down the field. Corners cost less than the middle for a view that is very nearly as good.
