Jerry Richardson Stadium was finished in the summer of 2012 but did not stage a game until 31 August 2013, because Charlotte had no football programme until then. It cost forty-five million dollars and is the smallest ground in this hub by some distance. One quiet detail sets it apart: the pitch is deliberately rotated off the usual north-south alignment to sit square with the street grid of the Charlotte Research Institute campus along Tryon Street, so the sun crosses it differently from anywhere else here.

Green fireworks are fired from the field house behind one end after every Charlotte score, and Norm the Niner works the stands. Tailgating is concentrated outside the main gate with cornhole and food tents, and because the programme only dates to 2013 the traditions are young and still being invented. Charlotte is warm in September and pleasant by November.

A west-side expansion to 18,170 seats is under construction through the 2026 season, so part of that side is out of use.

A horseshoe with one end left open onto the campus buildings, mostly bench seating with premium and personal-seat-licence seats on the home side and a six-thousand-square-foot press box above them. The important thing for 2026 is that you will be watching a building site: a sixty-to-seventy-million-dollar press and suite tower is going up on the west side, due to finish early in 2027 and to take the ground to 18,170, and the premium seating in it is being sold for next season rather than this one. Part of that side is therefore out of use and the entrances on it have moved.
