Skelly Field at H. A. Chapman Stadium opened on 4 October 1930, paid for by William Skelly of Skelly Oil, and was Skelly Stadium from 1947 until 2007, when the Chapman trust funded half of a rebuild and the name changed again. Its capacity chart is a bell curve and the descent was deliberate: 14,500 at the start, 40,385 from 1965 to 2004, and thirty thousand since the reopening in September 2008. The record crowd of 47,350 watched the top-ranked Oklahoma team win 65-0 here in 1987, and nothing like it will happen again.

A hurricane flag goes up and the storm sirens sound at the start of the fourth quarter. Supporters wave hurricane flags throughout, a habit that began when the student association handed them out at the 2013 homecoming and stuck. Hurricane Alley opens three hours before kick-off. The Oklahoma wind is a genuine factor rather than a figure of speech, and there is no cover anywhere in the ground.

Two levels, mostly bench, with reserved individual seats in the middle of the home side next to the lifts up to the boxes, and a press structure with suites and a club level from the 2007-08 rebuild. The building occupies only about two-thirds of its plot, which gives it a lot of open circulation space and an airy feel — and also means sound escapes rather than building up. The band sits on the visiting side, so its noise tends to go out of the ground rather than into it. The student block is small and sits in a corner beside them.
