Doak Campbell Stadium is wrapped in the largest continuous brick facade in the United States, which is why it looks like a university building rather than a stadium from the outside — the offices, classrooms and the university's own administration are literally built into the perimeter. The playing surface is Bobby Bowden Field and the bowl inside the brick is a conventional double-decked ring.

Chief Osceola rides Renegade to midfield and plants a flaming spear before kick-off; it is the most theatrical pre-match in the sport and it happens once, so arrive for it. Tallahassee in September is hot and the west side takes the sun; by late October the evening games are the best conditions of the season.

Published figures range from 67,277 to 79,560 seats.

Lower bowl all the way round, upper decks on both sidelines, and end zones that stay lower. The lower sidelines are close and the rows run long. The upper decks are steep — the front rows are the best value in the stadium and the back rows are high and exposed. The end zone lower rows are cheap and the view down the field is clean. Because the brick perimeter encloses the structure, the concourses are darker and cooler than most, which matters in September.
