Memorial Stadium opened in 1923 as a war memorial — the inscriptions are still on the four corner pylons — and has been extended so often that the modern bowl is a ring of additions around a small original core. It is the building behind the longest sellout streak in college football, running since 1962, and on a home Saturday the stadium holds more people than all but a couple of cities in the state.
The whole bowl wears red, which is where the Sea of Red comes from, and the crowd's reputation is for applauding the opposition off the field rather than for hostility. Lincoln is small enough that the campus and the stadium are the same place; people walk in from downtown. Late-season games are cold and the north and south ends catch the wind.
The west stands are the oldest and lowest and their sideline rows are the closest seats in the building. The east side was rebuilt with a taller upper deck and club level, so the same nominal height sees a different game from one side to the other — worth checking in 3D before you buy. The north and south end additions are steep and modern and their lower rows sit right behind the goalposts. Corners of the upper levels give you both twenty-yard lines and are the value play.
