This Memorial Stadium opened in 1960 and inherited its name from the twenty-thousand-seat Memorial Stadium of 1925 that it replaced, over on Tenth Street. The pitch has carried the Merchants Bank name since 2025. The two ends were filled in by buildings rather than by seating decks — the north in 2009, with a weights hall, classrooms and the hall of fame behind it, and the south in 2018.
Big Jake, a seventy-five millimetre howitzer, fires after every Indiana score and the Army ROTC does press-ups behind it. The Marching Hundred plays Back Home Again in Indiana and the crowd sings it; the team runs out through a pyrotechnic wall; and three hours before kick-off there is the Walk to the Rock, where the squad touches Hep's Rock, a block of southern Indiana limestone put there in 2005 and renamed for Terry Hoeppner after his death. The student section was consolidated into the north end in 2024 so that they are the first people the team sees.
It is the 1960 horseshoe with a single main level on each sideline: the press box, the club seats and the suites are all on the west. Because both ends are buildings, there is no sideline upper deck and no roof anywhere, so the concourses and the top rows are fully exposed. Worth knowing before you buy: there are no handrails in the seating areas, which makes the steps harder work in wet or cold weather. The students are at the north end and the corners of the sidelines are the value seats.
