The newest theatre on Broadway, built in 1998 behind the salvaged facades and interior fragments of two demolished 42nd Street houses, and originally called the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. It has been the Lyric since 2014 and is run by ATG Entertainment; the building itself is owned by the city and state of New York. Its main entrance and box office are on 43rd Street, not 42nd.

1,622 is the figure since the 2017-18 rebuild of the auditorium. It comes from Wikipedia rather than from ATG Entertainment, which publishes no seat count, so it is shown as an approximation. The widely quoted 1,821 and 1,866 are both pre-renovation and no longer describe the room.

Three levels and roughly 1,622 seats since the 2017-18 rebuild, which cut the capacity substantially and reshaped the auditorium for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child — the widely quoted 1,821 and 1,866 are both pre-renovation and no longer describe the room. Being purpose-built in the 1990s, sightlines are consistent all the way round and the tiers are steeper than in any of the historic houses.

What’s on at the Lyric

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child plays at the Lyric Theatre, as of 30 July 2026. Broadway bookings change constantly, so this page does not publish a performance calendar it cannot keep honest — it gives you the room. The seating map above is the theatre itself, so it holds good whatever is on the stage.
