Opened in 1925 as the Forrest, renamed the Coronet in 1945 and the Eugene O'Neill in 1959 by Lester Osterman, who bought it and dedicated it to the playwright. Neil Simon owned it outright through the 1970s. Jujamcyn took over operations in 1982 and it has been run by ATG Entertainment since the two merged in 2023, and it has held the same tenant since 2011.
This is the least settled capacity on Broadway: Playbill says 1,047, The Broadway League 1,066, and the figure most often quoted is 1,108. ATG Entertainment publishes no breakdown to arbitrate between them, and Wikipedia itself hedges with “has been cited as having as many as”.
A broad orchestra under a deep single mezzanine, in a room that has been reconfigured more than once and whose seat count no two authorities agree on. The mezzanine is high and its rake is steep, so the back of it keeps a complete view of the stage; the orchestra is wide, which makes the outer side seats a real consideration rather than an afterthought.
