George Broadhurst, a playwright, had this built for himself in 1917 and opened it with Shaw's Misalliance. It is a mirror twin of the Gerald Schoenfeld next door — the two went up within a fortnight of each other to the same Herbert J. Krapp plans — and at 1,218 it is one of the larger straight-play houses, which is why musicals keep taking it.

One tier rather than two is what distinguishes this room from the double-mezzanine houses of the same decade: the mezzanine rake is long and continuous, and its front rows are among the best-value seats in the district. The orchestra is deep, so the rear stalls sit under a substantial overhang.
