Address
200 West 45th Street, New York, NY
Capacity
~1,700
Opened
1973
Run by
Nederlander Organization

Opened in 1973 on the third floor of One Astor Plaza, the tower built on the site of the demolished Astor Hotel, and named for the family that developed it. Its own entrance is on 45th Street. At roughly 1,700 it is one of the four largest theatres on Broadway, it has been physically enlarged for a production before now, and the Nederlander Organization runs it with the Minskoffs. It has held the same tenant since 2006.

The Broadway League says 1,710 and the Nederlander Organization 1,696, and the house has been physically enlarged for a production before now, which is why Wikipedia footnotes the figure as dependent on the show.

Two large tiers in a room designed for spectacle, with a very wide proscenium and a deep orchestra. The scale means the rear orchestra here sits further back than the mezzanine at a mid-sized house, so height is worth more than proximity in this building. Because the auditorium is above street level the whole room is raked hard, and the upper tier holds the full stage picture.

The Lion King plays at the Minskoff Theatre, as of 30 July 2026. Broadway bookings change constantly, so this page does not publish a performance calendar it cannot keep honest — it gives you the room. The seating map above is the theatre itself, so it holds good whatever is on the stage.
