Address
210 West 46th Street, New York, NY
Capacity
~1,611
Opened
1986
Run by
Nederlander Organization

The Marquis opened in 1986 on the third floor of the New York Marriott Marquis hotel, built as the replacement for five historic theatres demolished to make room for the hotel — a trade that provoked the largest preservation fight in the district's history. Its own entrance and box office are on 46th Street, not on Broadway. The Nederlander Organization runs it and it seats about 1,611.

The Nederlander Organization says 1,611 and The Broadway League 1,612 — one seat apart, and Wikipedia footnotes both as approximate and dependent on the show, so neither is published as exact.

A wide, modern, two-tier room designed for large musicals, with consistent sightlines and a much steeper rake than the 1920s houses around it. Being purpose-built means there are no overhang surprises and no obstructed columns; what varies is elevation, and the front of the upper tier is a genuinely good seat rather than a fallback. Published capacity differs by a single seat between sources, and both call it approximate.

What’s on at the Marquis

Stranger Things: The First Shadow plays at the Marquis Theatre, as of 30 July 2026. Broadway bookings change constantly, so this page does not publish a performance calendar it cannot keep honest — it gives you the room. The seating map above is the theatre itself, so it holds good whatever is on the stage.
