St James' Park has been in use since 1880 and sits in the middle of Newcastle, which is both its charm and the reason it looks the way it does. Listed buildings and a graveyard boxed the site in, so when the ground was expanded in 2000 only two sides could go up: the Milburn Stand and the Leazes End became an enormous cantilevered double-decker while the Gallowgate End and the East Stand stayed low.
