Anfield opened in 1884 — Everton played here first — and has been Liverpool's home since 1892. Two expansions in eight years took it to 61,276: the Main Stand grew to three tiers in 2016, and the Anfield Road Stand gained a second tier that opened during 2024. The Kop is still a single tier of more than twelve thousand, and still the reason people describe this ground rather than just visit it.

Four stands, all different heights, and the geometry rewards knowing which. The Main Stand is the tallest structure in the ground and its upper tier gives the widest field of view of anywhere at Anfield, at the cost of distance. The Kop is one enormous rake behind the goal: loud, and steeper than it looks on television. The new Anfield Road upper tier is the freshest angle in the ground and usually the cheapest of the elevated options, and the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand runs along the other touchline.
