The Metropolitano is Atlético de Madrid’s ground and the newest of the big Spanish stadiums, although the bowl is older than it looks: it was built in 1994 as La Peineta, stood unused for most of a decade, and reopened rebuilt in 2017 with a roof over every seat. What that leaves is a single continuous bowl rather than four separate stands, steep and tight to the pitch, which is a generous shape for a concert. It is also a long way east of the middle of Madrid, out in San Blas, and that changes how you plan the evening a good deal more than it changes the view from your seat.

One thing to know before you open a view, because it is the reason part of this map is dimmed: the panoramas here are borrowed from the stadium’s football configuration, the one Atlético play in. The tier, the row, the height and the angle are the Metropolitano’s own geometry and they are right — what is not this show is the floor, which you will see as a pitch rather than as a stage. That is the trade for a real photograph from the seat instead of a drawing of one, and it is also why 141 of the 218 areas open a view and 77 do not. The split is not random. Every section with a three-figure number has a view — all 144 of them except 203, 204 and 205, and this map draws those three as non-selectable, so they were never clickable in the first place. What is dimmed is the 72 four-figure sub-blocks the concert plan carves out of the rings (1011, 1042, 4001…) and the two pitch areas, GA1 and GA2: none of those ids exists in a football map, so there is no photograph to attach to them.

Where to sit: the Metropolitano, from the stage outwards

The measurement that governs this page: the stage is at one end, not in the middle. On the plan it is a tall, narrow block sitting about 101 map units east of the centre of the bowl, drawn across the end of the pitch with the word STAGE written down it and the two standing areas in front. So the room has a front and a back, and distance and angle stop agreeing with each other: inside a single ring the furthest section can be three times further from the stage than the nearest.

Around the pitch the map stacks a ring numbered 100 to 133, then 200 to 239, 300 to 339, 400 to 439 and a partial 500 to 512, plus the two pitch areas GA1 and GA2. One wrinkle is worth knowing before you buy: most of the lower ring is drawn split, so a section a ticket calls 104 appears on this map as 1041, 1042 and 1043. The counts and the distances below are read off the geometry of this map, in its own units. And the caveat for this whole page: the seating chart here is the stadium’s generic concert configuration, not a build announced for these two nights — because none has been announced. The tiers, the ids and the geometry are the stadium’s own and are accurate; where the stage finally goes, and how the pitch is divided, are the production’s to decide.

The pitch — GA1 and GA2

The floor is drawn as two standing areas rather than numbered blocks: GA1 against the stage, measured at about 85 units from it, and GA2 behind it at about 190. That gap is the whole geometry of a standing ticket here, and it is a real difference — GA2 sits further from the stage than the closest seats in the lower ring. Neither of the two opens a 3D view, for the same reason the sub-blocks don’t: a football map has a pitch where the concert plan has a crowd. They are the only two areas on this page you cannot check before you buy.

The lower ring — 100 to 133

The ring at pitch level, thirty-four sections, and the widest spread on the plan: from about 95 units at the sections flanking the stage to about 330 at the far end. It is also the ring the concert map subdivides — twenty-two of the thirty-four are drawn split into two or three pieces with four-figure ids, and it is exactly those pieces that have no panorama. The twelve that are not split (100, 110, 116, 117, 118 and 127 to 133) all open a view. If you are buying down here, buying one of those means you can see it first.

Second ring — 200 to 239

Thirty-nine sections, 189 to 391 units out, and the first tier that goes round in one piece. Thirty-six of the thirty-nine open a view; the three that do not are 203, 204 and 205, which this map draws as non-selectable, so nothing clickable is missing. Along the two long sides this is the balance most people want at the Metropolitano, because the bowl is steep: you gain a lot of height for very little distance.

Third ring — 300 to 339

Forty sections, 218 to 420 units, and all forty open a view. This is where the end-stage geometry bites: the sections at the stage end of the ring are near it and looking along it, while the ones at the opposite end are nearly twice as far away and looking straight at it. A flat seating chart cannot show you which of those two you are buying. Two panoramas can, in about five seconds.

Fourth ring — 400 to 439

Forty sections, 250 to 453 units, all forty with a view. These are upper-tier seats and the numbering is honest about that, but the spread inside the ring is larger than the step up from the ring below: a 400 beside the stage is closer to it than a 300 at the far end. Ten further areas numbered 4001 to 4010 appear on this plan alongside them, and those are dimmed.

Fifth ring — 500 to 512

Thirteen sections, 292 to 438 units, the outermost seating on the plan — and a partial ring rather than a complete one, covering part of the building rather than all of it. All thirteen open a view, which is worth using, because a 500-series number here does not mean what it would at a stadium with a full fifth tier. Ten further areas numbered 5001 to 5010 sit alongside them and are dimmed.

The split sub-blocks — 1011, 1042, 2061, 3220…

Not extra sections: the slices a section is drawn in when the concert configuration divides it. Seventy-two of them appear on this map, most of them in the lower ring, and none has a panorama of its own — the football map the views come from has the parent section, not the slices. If a listing sells you a 1042, the seat is inside section 104; open one of the unsplit sections nearby for the closest honest view of it.

Getting to Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The stadium is in San Blas, on the eastern edge of Madrid, about eight kilometres from Puerta del Sol — far out by the standards of a Spanish city, and easy to reach anyway. Metro line 7 has a station at the ground called Estadio Metropolitano, in fare zone A. Note that line 7 splits east of the centre: coming out from the city you may have to change between the 7A and 7B branches at the island platform, which is the kind of detail that costs people the first three songs. Buses serve the site and are the usual crush after a full house; driving is the least good option, because parking around the ground is limited and the approach roads are slow on event nights. It is the end of July: carry water.

The sections flanking the stage in the lower ring are the nearest seats in the building at about 95 units, and the ones straight down the room from it are three and a half times further away in the same ring. Along the sides, the 200 ring is the balance most people want: the bowl is steep enough that height comes almost free. The 300 and 400 rings are where the value sits, and the numbering misleads — a 400 beside the stage is closer to it than a 300 at the far end. Why does my ticket say 104 when the map says 1042?

Because the concert plan divides most of the lower ring. Twenty-two of its thirty-four sections are drawn split into two or three pieces with four-figure ids — 104 becomes 1041, 1042 and 1043 — and those pieces are the ones without a panorama, because the football map the views come from only has the parent section. Twelve sections of the ring are not split at all: 100, 110, 116, 117, 118 and 127 to 133.
