Where to sit: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, ring by ring

One measurement decides the rest of this page: the stage is at the exact centre of the room, and it is drawn as a circle. We read it off the plan rather than assuming it — the stage element is a square about 51 map units on a side with a circle inscribed in it, and its centre falls within a unit and a half of the centre of the seating bowl. The floor — one general-admission area

The plan puts the concert floor down as a single general-admission area wrapped around the central stage rather than as numbered blocks, and it opens a panorama like everything else. That panorama is the honest version of a floor ticket: flat ground, very close, and a view decided by when you arrive rather than by what you paid. Two named rooms sit at the edge of the floor and are the closest seated positions in the building — the Mercedes-Benz Club and the Delta Sky360 Club, both measured at about 83 units from the stage, nearer than any numbered section.

100 Level — sections 103 to 135

Twenty-three numbered sections at floor height, plus the three general-admission strips 101GA, 102GA and 136GA, measured at 144 to 202 units from the stage. Because the stage is central this ring is a complete circle of close seats rather than a good half and a bad half, and the spread from the nearest of them to the furthest is only about forty per cent. That tightness is the whole point of a centre-stage build, and it is the opposite of what the end-stage plans on this tour do.

200 Level — sections 201 to 247

Forty-one sections, the middle tier, 200 to 263 units out. For most people this is the best balance on the map: high enough to take in a circular production in one look, near enough to read the stage without relying on the screens. At a centre-stage build the middle ring is worth more than it would be at an end-stage one, because none of it is behind anything.

300 Level — sections 301 to 350

Fifty sections, the outer ring and the furthest seats on this plan, 269 to 329 units out, which at the far end is about two and a third times the distance of the nearest 100. Getting to Mercedes-Benz Stadium

The stadium is at 1 AMB Drive North-West, on the western edge of downtown Atlanta beside the Georgia World Congress Center, which makes it one of the easier American stadiums to reach without a car. MARTA’s Blue and Green lines stop on either side of it — at Vine City and at the SEC District station by the convention centre — and the walk from either is short. Parking around the complex is plentiful by American standards and still sells out for large events. The roof retracts, so dress for whichever Atlanta evening you get: whether it is open or closed is decided close to the night.
