Anoeta stopped being an athletics stadium in the 2017-19 rebuild: the running track went, the stands came forward and down, and a bowl that used to feel remote became one of the better modern grounds in Spain — it won a world Prix Versailles award in 2020 and hosted that year's Women's Champions League final. The Reale Arena naming deal ended after 2024-25 and the club went back to Anoeta.

Because the track was removed, the lower tier now starts very close to the touchline, and those seats are the biggest improvement of the rebuild. The Aitor Zabaleta end is the animation stand.
