The Musical Dome Cologne is an iconic venue in Germany, with a seating capacity of over 1,700, making it one of the largest musical theaters in the country. Hosting the world-famous Moulin Rouge musical, the theater needed an advanced digital tool to elevate the customer experience and bridge the gap between ticket selection and the full spectacle of the show. 3D Digital Venue stepped in to craft a digital twin that would go beyond traditional 3D seating maps—offering an immersive preview of the show’s breathtaking environment.
Owned and operated by ATG Entertainment, a global leader in live entertainment with 71 venues across the UK, US, and Continental Europe, the Musical Dome Cologne stands among some of the most iconic stages worldwide.
Unlike standard 3D or 2D maps, this project was about creating a faithful digital recreation of the Musical Dome Cologne’s vibrant setting. Our team meticulously designed the digital twin, capturing the iconic elements that define the Moulin Rouge experience.
From the grand stage bathed in rich red hues to the dazzling lighting setup, every detail was accounted for. The model features the elaborate decor, including the show’s signature giant elephant head that dominates one side of the stage, as well as realistic reflections and shadows that mimic the venue’s real-time illumination.
By leveraging advanced photogrammetry and 3D rendering techniques, we ensured that every seat in the venue provided an accurate sightline perspective, giving ticket buyers an unprecedented level of insight into their viewing experience. The inclusion of detailed textures and immersive lighting effects made this model more than just a functional tool—it became a portal into the world of Moulin Rouge.
This high level of realism and interactivity has had a direct impact on ticket sales and audience engagement. By integrating this technology into Eventim’s ticketing system, prospective guests can explore the theater’s seating options with absolute confidence—understanding not only their view of the stage but also experiencing the venue’s unique atmosphere.
For a production as immersive as Moulin Rouge, where ambiance is integral to the experience, this digital preview offers ticket buyers an emotional connection before they even purchase their seats. As a result, audiences are more inclined to commit to different seating options, appreciating the vantage points available in advance.
The success of this digitalization project highlights how theaters can go beyond traditional seating charts to create meaningful and engaging fan experiences. By delivering a fully immersive 3D model, 3D Digital Venue has set a new standard for digital engagement in live theater, demonstrating how technology can enhance both ticketing transparency and emotional anticipation.
As more venues embrace digital twins, they have the opportunity to provide customers with a new way to connect with their productions—going the extra mile to influence purchase decisions and deepen fan engagement. The Musical Dome Cologne’s 3D model is proof that when technology meets artistry, it creates an experience that starts long before the curtain rises.
